Protein

Protein, a nutrient found in all cells in the body especially muscle, hair, skin and blood. We need protein but it is just as important to get your protein in the right amounts and from the right sources. Whole grain, beans and fish are all better choices than processed meats and deli meats. Here we have an article that explains the benefits of protein, how much we really need and which foods are the better choice.

Three Bean Salad

I have to admit when I was younger I never liked beans. The first time I tasted them again was a few years ago when I tried a few garbanzo and red kidney beans in my green salad. Now I am hooked and I try to find many different ways to include beans in my meals. I hope you enjoy this Three Bean Salad recipe as much as I do.

How Safe is your Laundry Detergent?

Laundry detergent, we all use it, but how much thought do we give to it? Some detergents can contain phosphates, enzymes and bleach that are slow to break down in the environment. Some can cause or aggravate skin irritations and allergies.

From safe detergents to Eco friendly detergents this Green Cleaning product site really gave me something to think about, and I thought it was worth sharing.  It offers you the information and choices to make an informed decision.

Heirloom (Survival) Seeds

Heirloom seeds, or sometimes referred to as survival seeds, are always open pollinated varieties. They will produce the same variety year after year as long as the seeds produced are properly saved. Heirloom seeds provide a wide variety of produce as they are not mass factory produced. Many times in your local nurseries you find the same varieties every year. With Heirloom seeds you can find many old fashioned varieties to try in your garden.

Survival seeds, heirloom seeds that are packaged in such a way to last for years until you need them, are a great way to be prepared for food shortages. Almost everyone has been through food shortages at their local grocery stores due to storms and power outages. Now, rising grocery costs are also causing more people to find alternatives other than the grocery store. Use a survival seed kit to add more variety to your garden, or save them for added security.

Solutions For Science carries the survival kit I mentioned, in addition to a wide range of products and supplies for any kind of natural or man made disaster we may face. I encourage you to check out their site to see what they have to offer.
